Using the Chrome extension
Start your Total Validator Tool and set the validation options in the usual way (except for the starting page). Then click the 'Listen Mode' button ready for validation requests from Chrome. This will shrink the tool into your System Tray.

Now just browse to the pages you wish to validate and click the TV icon on your toolbar to start the validation. Alternatively choose 'Total Validator' from the context menu (right mouse click the page)
In Chrome just surf to your starting page and click the 'TV' button to start the validation. Alternatively you can also choose 'Total Validator' from the context menu (right mouse click the page).
You can also hide the 'TV' button in your toolbar by right mouse clicking it, and just use the context menu option instead.
Extension options
To access and set the available options for the extension right mouse click the 'TV' icon and choose 'Options'. or choose 'Options' on the chrome://chrome/extensions/ page.
Listen port: This is set to 9889 by default. It is the 'TCP port' that the tool listens on for requests from the browser extension to validate pages. Whatever you enter here must match the value you've entered in the tool. Any number in the range 1-65535 is valid, but you must choose one that does not conflict with any other service you use.
Cookies: This is set by default. The 'Send browser cookies to Pro tool' option allows you to validate websites that are protected by a login form, by sending all the cookies for the current page (stored in the browser's cache) to the Pro tool. This works as follows: In Chrome log into the site you wish to check. Your browser should now hold a session cookie containing a reference to your login session. When you now use the extension to validate the current page this session cookie will be passed to the Pro tool so that it will have access to the protected pages of the website. Make use of the 'Paths to skip' option on the tool to avoid any 'log off' links.
Context menu: This is set by default and displays a 'Total Validator' option when you right mouse click any page. You can use this option to remove 'Total Validator' from the context menu.

- Right-click the download link and select 'Save As' to save to your desktop
- Open a tab pointing at chrome://chrome/extensions/
- Drag and drop the extension from the desktop onto this tab
Validation failed
If this message appears then there may be a conflict between the Tool and some other service. Use the options to select a different 'listen port'.
Could not contact the Total Validator tool
If this message appears then you may have forgotten to start the tool, or forgotten to click the 'Listen Mode' button. Alternatively, the port you are using may already be being used by another service, in which case select a new port number on the tool, and update the options page in Chrome as described above.
